If AL didn't get a registration, there is no means for them to know you have the gear, unlike your car where the manufs can get the state DMV's to help.

I suspect all of own a variety of items that have been recalled in our house that we have no clue about
I understand and agree. But I would have thought the manufacturer (Aqua Lung) would notify the dealer (my LDS) who then might have considered contacting those who had purchased the affected devices. I know they have sales records because they pulled up my purchase information in their computer yesterday. Like I said, learning experience.

Incidentally, they also mentioned yesterday - which I did not realize - that my Aqua Lung regulator has a lifetime parts warranty and there is only a labor charge for annual service. Apparently the catch is that is must be brought in for service before each subsequent 365 days elapses, or so it was explained to me.

Sound legit?

that is how many lifetime free part programs work, it's to force service revenue to the LDS

yep, paying for unnecessary annual service is quite "legit" in the dive industry....

I just brought my regulator in and yes, it seems excessive. $120 to effectively inspect (eg; look at) these components seems a bit much. For the equivalent cost of just a few annual inspections, brand new equipment can nearly be had.

I'm fairly certain I did not fill-out any information on Aqua Lung's site. Product registration is virtually never a requirement for warranty coverage. It is typically just a vehicle for generating mass marketing. I realize your point though that perhaps doing so might have resulted in notification from the manufacturer.

Product registration is not just a vehicle for generating mass marketing; it is primarily a vehicle for notifying customers of product recalls.

I was notified by Aqualung directly about the inflator button recall; I've never received a mass marketing anything from AL.

The manufacturer did everything it could to notify customers, but the weak link in the process is the customer's willingness to cooperate.

Good to know.
