Has anyone here rebuilt the battery packs on their ikelite strobes? Specially the rebuild kit from EBay? Wondering how smooth it went and if it worked. Thanks!
 
Haven't done it, but I think I watched some videos or found a DIY guide on it a while back. Maybe this one:


This guy sourced all his own components and bought a cheap spot welder. Did it the right way and seems to have a high quality result for around $60 per strobe plus a bunch of labor. Although he did use cheaper Chinese made battery cells, so unclear if that'll be an issue with longevity. Nothing crazy or really difficult, but you need to be precise and methodical about it.

I have a pair of 15-20 year old batteries from my DS160's that a might try to rebuild. I'll at least spec it out and see what the price looks like for the battery cells and other components nowadays. Worst case, I waste some money and still end up buying new batteries.

Edit: here are the original battery cells Ikelite uses from France (enough for 2 battery packs):
