Hi,
I´ve got a question about the zeagle brigade...do the rear weight pockets really make a difference?

thanks!

You can order them installed from Scubatoys and imo they are worth the money. As are the yellow thingies.

They can be nice if you're using quite a bit of weight, so that you can split some of the weight up. If you're not wearing a lot of weight, they don't make much difference. Out of 150 dives with them, I probably used them 5 or 6 times max.

Scubatoys will install them, but I'd try it without them before I spent the extra $50. As I said above, it all depends on the amount of weight carried. When I dove a 3mm with the Brigade, I only used 6lbs, and they made no difference at all. With a 7mm, it helped to distribute the weight a little and get my trim straight.

Also, the weight thingies are no longer yellow : Weight Thingies

I used my rear weight pockets when diving SoCal in a 7mm. I put about 1/4 of my wieght back there and was very comfortable. I don't really have a comparison though, didn't dive without the weight back there.

I also have the "Yellow" thingies (yes mine are yellow) and really like them for carrying the weights.

I had a few dives with steels and a few with AL80s.
On the steels I never used the back pockets.
On the AL80s I always use it, otherwise it gets really annoying on the surface (having to fin all the time to keep my face off the water).

Besides, it keeps the front pockets less "packed", better in my opinion, especially when you got all the danglies that most people have - inside the pockets (SMB, reels, sometimes the gloves, compass, slate, etc').

Thanks everybody!
Really good points to take into consideration.

once again,

Thanks a lot!

If you know how much weight you will need for a particular set-up, you can put some in the front and the rest you can put in back in the form of hard weights on the cam bands. It costs nothing as far as additional equipment and is one less thing to mess with.

If you feel you need ditchable weight, put however much you feel you may need to ditch in the front pockets. If you're properly weighted, you shouldn't need do ditch a whole lot. Just enough to get positive on the surface.

When I was using my Brigade, I usually split 40% in front and 60% in back.

As an uw photographer, I go 50%-50%. It helps to stay vertical !!!

It would definately make a difference on the surface I you were heavily weighted and could distribute some of the weight to your back. This would allow you to remain upright in the water easier with a fully inflated rear bladder.

My seaquest says not to use shot weight in rear pouch, I have always wondered why they wanted solid weight in rear pouch, anyone know ??
