This question is for divers that use heavy cold water gloves.

I am wondering how many divers end up modifying their pull dump string on Halcyon wings that don't have a knob.

I am waiting for my first wing and am wondering if I should imediately replace the pull dump string with a thicker string. Also should I tie a knot on the end? I am expecting to have a lot of trouble finding the string with heavy gloves on.

I use thick drygloves and have no problem finding the string without a knob or knot. Make a circle with your thumb and index finger around the body of the dump... now close the circle and you will find the string grasped between your thumb and index finger.

Try tying another knot...even two more knots in it. That way you have more of a chance of feeling one through your gloves when you tug and are more likely to have a successful dump.

What UP and O-Ring said sounds good... I belive when I first dove mine, I was still using wet gloves, which are 7mill, and had little trouble... now I use crushed neoprene dry gloves, with fleece liners and still have very little trouble... course remember that past 33feet that 5 or 7mills becomes 3.5 or 2.5 mills, which is about the thickness on my precompressed (crushed) neoprene gloves.

The worst I have happen is taking about 10-15seconds to find the thing, instead of finding it instantly, but I usually am not in a hurry to find it.

I know some brands come with, and I'm sure you could get a knob for it, but I wouldn't put one on... I've been told, and agree with not using the knobies.

Just out of interest, what's wrong with the knob on the string?
