Is there a way to replace the string on the low profile dump valve on the Apeks WTX wing? I can't see an obvious way to get it open. The knot on the dump valve seems to have come undone so that valve is essentially useless now.

The cover on the valve rotates off. A pin spanner is helpful to get a grip on the cover but it can be done without it if you can get some leverage with your palm. Most likely there's some sand jammed in the threads.

Once you have the cover off, peel the rubber sealing disc off the plug under the spring and then you can remove the old string and replace it. Glue the seal back in place with neoprene cement or silicone sealant. If you use Aquaseal it will work but you will have a much harder time getting it off the next time the string breaks.

Reassembly is reverse of the above. Be careful not to cross thread the cover when screwing it on.

And employ a fat string, fat strings no knob never let you down

Disclaimer: No skinny wire was inserted in fat string to keep it erect during the making of this photograph

Does your valve look similar to this? If so, Apeks and Aqualung refer to their BCD/Wing low profile dump valves as "flat valves":

Attached is a manual for installation/removal of these valves, but basically the valve cover unscrews counter-clockwise.

Yes this is exactly it, thanks! I emailed Aqualung but no response so far.

Okay thanks the counter clockwise was the bottle neck, this is a brand new wing so no sand, salt or anything to contend with. Will have to buy some glue first.
