Have not been to Hawaii yet but it's planned for next year. I will say this though, I can't imagine there is a more affordable place to do boat dives than Cozumel. When we went we spent $70/night and stayed at Hotel Cozumel and Resort. No it's not 5 star but we're diving all day and then walking into town to try a different awesome restaurant every night so all we did is sleep and shower there. And all the dive boats do pickups at their dock.. there's nothing quite like closing the door to your room, walking one minute and getting on your dive boat for the day. We dove for 6 days/12 dives with Dive with Martin for $325 each. That's $27/dive, including gear. That's dirt cheap, and the boat and guides were great. So total cost for my wife and I for 7 nights and 6 days of diving and eating out every night was less than $1,500. But we also spent a week on the mainland diving cenotes and doing the bull shark dive and visiting mayan ruins. I liked the diving on Cozumel, not a ton of sea life but the coral formations, pinnacles, swim throughs, and visibility made every dive very pleasant. The cenotes on the mainland blew me away. And the bull shark dives satisfied my craving for seeing "big stuff" that i didn't see on Cozumel. 7-9 big bull sharks swimming around us for over a half hour.

I will go back, but will do more cenote diving and would like to go in the summer for the whale shark snorkeling season.
