I am considering a trip to Cabo San Lucas with my wife for some scuba diving and kayaking. I have done an extensive search on the internet trying to find a company down there that either rents or gives tours with what I call "real" sea kayaks. These would be the type that have the farely small hole that the person sits down into and then attaches a spray skirt that they are wearing around their waste to the lip of that hole in order to keep the water out of the hull of the kayak and also keep them dry. The kind that I am finding in Cabo is the sit on top type. While we could use those and have fun we have used the sit in type with spray skirts in the past and intend to use those predominantly in the future.
We live in Washington state and will likely do most of our kayaking in the cold waters of the San Juan Islands in which the sit on top type would not be practical at all. Not only that but we would like to practice our wet exit and re-entry skills from the sit in type of kayak in the warmer waters of Cabo than in the frigid waters found in our home area.
So do any of you know who in Cabo has the type of kayak we are looking for? I found only one in San Jose del Cabo but we plan to stay in Cabo San Lucas and do not plan to rent a car so we would ideally find a shop in Cabo San Lucas proper to do our kayaking. Or is there a cheap bus system that could take us up to San Jose del Cabo? I am guessing that taking a taxi up there and back would be rather expensive. Any solid idea on what that rate would be? Thanks, Brian.
