I was thinking to post this under altered realities for the photo gurus to check out, but thought it would get more exposure here...

Anyone know.. real or fake

Looks a little fishy to me.

Its real, but its a dolphin.

I don't remember where online, but there is a series of pictures to go along this one image. This angle makes the mammal appear to be a shark, however, its clear in the other pictures its a dolphin.

Edit: Quick search got me another frame from the series...

Its true identity is a bit clearer here :)

Try a search of SB for about a year ago, using key words like "Photo", "Shark" and "Surfer". I'm pretty sure it turned out to be fake, or perhaps it was a dolphin, not a shark? I really can't remember, since I now suffer from "Mommy Brain"...

Scuba-sass :)

It doesn't look at all like a shark. Check the shape of the dorsal fin.

yup... this one's "real" but it's a dolphin:

also, even if you didn't know about the ruse, that dorsal
fin is very problematic. it screams "dolphin" or maybe
"pilot whale" but not a shark.

see the TV show in Discovery channel called "Air Jaws"?
where the great white sharks jump out of the water to catch seals?

now that's real! and an impressive video of natures natural selection process.
Seeing a 2,000 pound great white jump several feet into the air trying to catch a seal from below!

There's a thread out there that links to the photographer's website. It's a dolphin from a sequence of surfer photos. The funny thing is that one of the shark research groups had this posted at their booth last spring, and Colin explained the photo to them. You had to have been there. It was classic...

dang, everybody posted at once
