My husband recently surprised me by having booked a trip on a liveaboard, the Juliet to the Bahamas. Even though they say divers can be reached in case of an emergency at home, I'm still apprehensive. Does anyone know anything about issue?

Is there internet access / cell phone reception on board?
There is no internet or wifi on board while we are out on charter. We have a dedicated satellite email system but no ability to browse the internet or check personal email accounts. When within site of land in the Bahamas, VIs, and Puerto Rico your US phone will most likely work, but please check with your provider for fee schedules and roaming charged that might be incurred.

If you want to be certain - rent a satellite phone for the week. It's pretty reasonable - under $100 plus a high minute charge but works anywhere you can see the sky - I'd say in your cabin also but Juliet is a steel-hulled boat so maybe not.

Verizon actually has a division - Verizon - Satellite Overview or another option: Satellite Phone Store - Sat Phone Rentals & Services - Worldwide Coverage - there's dozens of other options also. Ask but I'm pretty sure you want an Iridium phone in that area.

We have satellite email and a satellite phone on board to stay in touch with loved ones while you're on board with us. You can also call the office and I'l know the best way to reach the boat at any given time.
