Greetings,

I have a scubapro 2nd stage (R295) that came with the reuseable mouthpiece strap. I noticed the outer "hook" has broken off which makes me question the lock's integrity, given the remaining inner hook seems to be relatively easy to slide off if hit the right way.

1) Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of failures of reuseable vs. generic non-reuseable zip ties?
2) Are the generic zip ties sold at dive shops the same quality as those found at hardware stores?

A zip tie is a zip tie. If you are ocean diving use white, cave diving use black.

Not all zip ties are alike. There are some really cheap ones that are not as strong as others. Also I used to like using the ones with stainless steel blade ( or tab ) but I don't know if they are really any stronger. Use a good brand name and you won't have to worry about it.

I've gotten ones from walmart and ones from MSC and they are both equally strong. Honestly, for a mouthpiece you can use whatever brand ziptie you want.

I'm not saying one cannot use a cheap one, just that there are differences in them.

Some zip ties have a lower profile once clipped into place. If I remember correctly the zip ties I saw on Dive Rite regulators were especially low profile and could be positioned pretty much anywhere. With generic zip ties you have to remember to position it so that the raised portion will not interfere with the mask or exhaust tee etc.

I usually buy my zip ties in bulk at the hardware store electrical department.

If I owned the OP's reg, I'd replace that reusable clamp with a zip tie.

Zip tie with a stainless reinforcement.

Can someone explain why the difference in color?
