WHAT: RDT - 1 Rig Dive, 2 Catalina Dives and a Chamber Tour
WHEN: Sunday, August 15th, 2010 Departs @ 6:00am, Returns by 6:00pm
VESSEL: SunDiver Dive Boat - Long Beach (182 Marina Drive Long Beach CA 90803)
DESTINATION: Oil Rig (1-Tank), Catalina Island (2-Tank) & Two Harbor Chamber Tour
The Roddenberry Dive Team would like to invite you to get UNBENT aboard the Sundiver (Map). Boarding will begin at 7pm on Saturday, August 14th (the evening before). The Sundiver sleeps 22 people in 11 double bunks so expect to get cozy with someone if you want to sleep on the boat. Departure will be at 6am.
The first dive will be at a local Oil Rig (Eureka or The Twins) while the 2nd and 3rd will be along the Catalina Coastline (Oil Rig dives are weather dependent.) Somewhere along the way, we'll dock at Two Harbors and enjoy a voluntary tour of the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. Karl Huggins, Program Manager, will demystify the chamber, it's physiological effects as well as operation and perhaps even give us a taste of being re-compressed to a whopping depth of 2 feet. Once done with the tour we'll head back the the Sundiver for a tasty lunch and resume our dives. The expected return-to-dock time is 6pm (8/15/10).
The Sundiver is a 54 custom dive boat that can comfortably hold 26 divers (Sleeps 22 in 11 double bunks). A light breakfast, full lunch, snacks and beverages are included. Tanks and Air-fills are also included (Personal tanks are welcome). They said they should have enough weights to accommodate everyone but, generally weights are not included. I would ask that those of you who feel comfortable doing so, please bring your own. Nitrox is not available on the boat but you are welcome to bring you own Nitrox-filled tank. Please remember to bring a valid Nitrox certification card along with you standard certification card.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
In order to dive you will need to bring ALL you own scuba gear except for a Tank (Provided by Boat). If preferred, gear can be rented through the Beach Cities Scuba but you must call in advance to reserve your equipment and pick it the day before as the shop will not be open the morning of the dive.
Please note that Oil Rig diving is similar to Blue Water Diving and considered an advanced skill. I would ask that those who want to participate make sure they have at minimum an Advance Certification and are comfortable with this type of diving.
TRIP REQUIREMENTS:
All diving participants must be certified through a recognized Scuba Diving Agency.
All those attending must Download, Fill-Out and Send-In a RDT Liability Release Wavier prior to arriving at boat. Once complete, please either fax or email to to the address below. In order to dive, the completed release must be sent to us prior to boarding.
