Just wondering if any of you have experience using RCI timeshare properties? If so, have you been happy with the facilities when you arrived? Were they as advertised?

Had a bad experience last week in St. Croix with an RCI property and just wondering if this is abnormal?

mofosaurus once bubbled...
But I have stayed at RCI places in Palm Springs, Maui, Big Island, and Cancun that were clean, spacious and well stocked.

I am just wondering if RCI as a whole provides nice facilities. I know there are always bad apples to be found. Would you say that the properties were first class or just nice?

they do have a rating system which somewhat realtes to the level of services available at a given property.

The dive shop I work at is located at a timeshare resort which has trading privledges through RCI. It was an "International Resort of Distinction" when I started working there. They have since opened a spa and a kids program, and now they are considered a "Gold Crown" resort. Seems the distinctions relates to services available.

That said, the property is quite nice and people who exchange in are usually very pleased. Occasionally stuff breaks, and the staff always acts promptly ( in Caribbean terms) to fix it.

The newer buildings are technically considered a seperate resort, but share the same grounds. Those buildings are superbly appointed with in-room jacuzzi tubs, washer-dryers, dishwashers in the kitchenettes, and even a small pool dedicated for each of the newer buildings.

Thanks mofosaurus. Have considered buying a timeshare but did not have real good luck using a friends last week as I posted. We take several diving trips annually and think that long term it would be a good idea. Thanks for your input.

There is a huge secondary market for timeshares. I have a RCI GoldCrown/II 5 Star in New Orleans that I purchased at about 50% of retail pricing.

IM me if you'd like a realtor name that deals with a lot of timeshares.

Also, timeshares are not really an investment... buy it because you want it and can afford it.
