Raw steel exposed, patching options?

Hey all, is there a good way to remove this rust and re-coat the exposed steel to prevent further rusting and flaking of the nearby paint coat?

I would probably scuff it with a little scotchbrite pad and brush on a little paint. IF color really matters, cheapest bottle of nail polish you can find in white.

Perfect? no. Good enough, yes.

I'm surprised, most hydro shops around here will paint them to prevent rust.

Pretty much what I do.

I noticed the same shortly after getting my steel tanks hydro‘d. Slightly scuff, then spray with some paint. Since then, I make it a point after picking up my tanks from hydro. Tape off around the hydro mark, then give it a few light coats.

BTW Bummer the test facility did not give a plus rating givin the REE is right on the cylinder.
