So i will get my open water training this weekend, and probably get my spearfishing one in 2 weeks, but i want to have my own gear by then. i want to get a BCD that i can use for regular recreative diving and for spearfishing my cousin recommended the ranger but not sure if i should consider something else?

That is a large BC with a lot of lift. I would not recommend that BC for warm water, where you can get by with a more compact, streamlined BC....

Agreed, the Ranger is a large BC with a lot of lift ,45 lbs if I remember correctly. Unless you are diving large doubles you will never need that much lift. I am a big Zeagle fan but the Ranger is just more than most divers need, one of the smaller, lighter, less lift BC will serve you better. Something in the 30 lift range is more than enough for most any rec diving needs.

I would also encourage you to slow down on the spearfishing. I have nothing at all against it but it tends to distract you as a diver. It would greatly improve your safety and hunting ability if you get your cert, then spend at least the next 50 dives or so just diving. Spend those dives improving your dive skills and observing the fish around you before taking on another aspect of the sport.....the same way you would spend time at the shooting range learning to shoot before heading off into the field

Thanks for the answers, yes im not planning on spearfish right away, i will defensively wait for few dives, just wanted to get something now that would work on the future, which BC you guys recommend then?
