Check out SKYBUS.COM. They have non-stop tickets to Fort Lauderdale from GREENSBORO from $10 one-way and up. What you save on the flight will help out on other expenses. Lotsa dive shops there or you can go further south. I fly them every month, round-trip, for $40.80 from Col's, Ohio. I rent a cheap car from Payless or whoever is cheapest that month and make it down to Largo or Islamorada in 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You can get three days of two-tank dives for around $170 plus tax in a lot of the shops in the upper keys. I like Key Dives in Islamorada because they furnish a DM for every six divers at no extra cost, eliminating navigation worries and if you need any equipment they are very reasonable. Best dive shop in the upper Keys as far as I am concerned.

herman:
Actually, the Gypsy club is fairly inactive...at least where club meeting are concerned, they (we?? ... been an off and on member for years) use to meet once a month. Now it's mostly outing at the quarries and the Christmas party. The Down Under club is a lot more active with meeting and programs. We meet the second Tue of each month at a local restuarant. A lot of chat, a good meal and some kind of program. Come join us, the next meeting will be Feb 12. Collum7 and myself are usually there. The great thing is the clubs get along and often join forces.
The NC Divers is not a club as such but if your interested in meeting local divers who actually dive, that is your group. Some of us are diving almost every weekend year round. We have active tech, cave, reef, wreck, rebreather (both homebrew and factory) and darn near any other kind of diver you can think of. All are welcome- newbie to tech. Pick most any weekend and come to Rolesville, go to the back parking lot, turn right at the portapotty and odds are most of the vehicles are those of NC Divers. Just walk up and ask...May be there this weekend myself, need a lot of dry suit practice.

Listen to herman:D

I apologize for activity comment...I just see alot of folks from Gypsy coming to our dive shop during the Summer. But you are right in that I am not aware of the club activity in Raleigh...only seeing the divers in Beaufort...Which is pretty frequently...

depending on where in raleigh you are, you might also be close to water world on 70 in durham. kinda far from down under, of course, since that's in cary, but if you're more north than south it's a thought.

hope to see you in rolesville sometime! i'd rather dive than meet about diving. ;)

Isn't the purpose of a dive club to actually...dive?

Sounds like most of these "clubs" talk about diving but don't do a lot of it. NCDivers is your best bet.

Now come on....we have to be above water sometime and most of the members do dive...a lot. We just like to get together when were not wet and talk about when we are....or where we are going next.

Just playing devil's advocate. :D NCDivers has it's fair share of non-diving events...although they're mostly related to diving. ;)
