Going there next November and since I was booking early, I had all the boats to choose from. I chose MSV Seahorse because it seemed to fit my requirements closest and did a very good itinerary at the time. It is not cheap - none of the Raja Ampat boats are - but it cost less than the Dewi Nusantara for a similar itinerary. The one I am dong is a 12-day north-south isles combo and has 39 scheduled dives in the itinerary.

Hi Heg

Nov/Dec is also a good time to dive RA. Most liveaboards will end the Komodo trips around October time and transition to RA. For 2013 the Indo Siren is fully booked with a wait list already, but in Dec 2014 there are some spaces on either the 09-19Dec or 20-30Dec (both have double bed cabins available).

But Palau Siren is currently fully booked in March 2014 so we can't be of assistance there for you. Sorry about that! guess the trips in Dec 2013 didn't work out for you - have you decided to go to Truk instead?

Feel free to pm if we can offer any assistance with the above mentioned

Best wishes,
Siren Fleet

Booked a land based trip to Fiji in November as we heard March was better for Palau. We are hoping to get a space on ocean hunter III . Just waiting to hear back. Will check out your scedule for late 2014/ early 2015 for RA
thanks

Slightly off topic but is a 2.5mm shorty sufficient for Raja Ampat in November? I am happy with it at 79*F or over.
Don't ask me- I'm a big wuss and dive in a minimum of a 5mm ( Fiji, Vanuatu, Thailand) with water temps at 27-28 degs . I find the more dives I do a day , then the thicker the suit I need.

If you're happy wearing a 2.5mm shorty in temps of 79F then you'll be fine in November RA with just that. The temp rarely drops below 79F (26C) more often than not it is 82F (28C).

We advise people who feel the cold after repetitive dives to bring a hooded vest to wear under the shorty.

Enjoy Raja Ampat!

Bumping this thread as I am curious as well. Planning a trip ~Jan '15. I did a lot of rearch ~18mo ago but decided on Komodo instead as my dive buddy really wanted to go. Went with Mermaid I. Now she plans to book the same boat for RA. We are fairly budget travelers, but pay for what is worth it. So we would be booking the budget cabin on Mermaid. As repeat travelers we would get 10% off, so it makes it one of the more affordable boats as well. From my notes I had Mermaid and Siren at the top of my list, but now I see the $2600 Euro I had listed from back then is now $3500 Euro! I understand things get more expensive, but this takes the Siren out of my price range. From my notes I also had listed: "Too Spendy: Damai, Amira, Arenui, dewi-nusantara, Pindito, Sea Safari VIII, Seven Seas".

I had noted that the Ambai was to be built - It looks like now it is running. Prices seem inline with Mermaid. Anyone have info on this boat? They do a 12 night in my timeframe. My notes say "Bad reports" for the company.

So for me I am looking for advise on anything that is a better value than the Mermaid trip... either same or better quality for the money, or something that is really worth spending a bit more on. Otherwise I have the same requirements. Dont need a fancy room. But private head, great staff, and a trustworthy boat.

Thanks!

Look at the Black Manta. Similar pricing to Mermaid (once you factor in extras such as nitrox and soft drinks etc). We were on the White Manta a few years back in the Similans and had a great time. Really nice boats. Not sure the RA trip is a long as the one offered by Mermaid though..
