Four or six of us will be going to Raja Ampat in late September to mid-October. We're looking at Sorido Bay Resort, Raja4Divers and Misool Eco Resort (I think I have the names right). The #1 priority is a great house reef. I assume the boat dives will be great at all places as well as the food and accomodations. Any suggestions from people who have actually been to any of these resorts? Thanks
 
I have only been on LOB's in this area but we dove a lot of the same sites as Misool Eco Resorts. It is very pretty there! If you end up going there request Bram as a dive guide. He is a very quiet and unassuming guy but an excellent dive guide. He used to work on the AA2 before it sank in RA! Have fun!
 
Earlier in your timeframe Misool might still be a bit wet. Rainy season is typically until mid-September, though in any particular year it might stop raining earlier or later. It can be rough traveling to Misool when the weather isn't good, and of course rough seas have an impact on dive site choice for boat dives.
 
My first choice would be Pulau Pef (raja4divers). Quero is correct on Misool. Pulau Pef is generally OK year around. Both have great house reefs. I can't speak about Sorido.
 
Sorido is fine year round. (Misool is in the south while Sorido Bay and Pef are both in the north; makes a difference!) For comfort, all are really nice resorts. The south tends to have more vibrant coral and color than the north while the north tends to have more big fish than the south.
 
Hi there, I have only been to Misool Eco Resort in RA and went also in the end of September. The seas were not flat but still manageable at all dive sites. There was a steady breeze during the trip, which was actually very positive to keep the tropical temperature a bit more manageable for us. The roughest day's dive was at the open sea Magic (Manta) Mountain, but still OK on the surface and perfectly fine underwater. The benefits of this time seem to be the larger fish life - we had mantas at multiple dive sites and 10+ at Magic Mountain. Vis was still quite good, not crystal clear but still good enough to see across the entire site which was about 20+ metres. For the house reef you certainly get a good choice there, very convenient and no currents that I can recall. We saw black-tips, turtles, octopus and more little critters than we could count. If you really wanted there was another dive site across the little channel at the neighbouring island if you really wanted to avoid the boats and didn't mind a short snorkel to get to the site.
