Hi there: I feel for you - I lived in London through enough rainy days to always remember why I left!! I'm not diving today - but here in Japan the weather is hot! I'll be diving on Saturday. Meanwhile - welcome to the board! I don't know where you normally dive but I just love warm water. I hope you can make it somewhere nice soon - if you ever want to come to Japan let me know! I'm always up to show SB'ers around.

edit: I just checked your profile and see that you've been to Hawaii - my wife and I just spent a week there, it was great - if you want to see some of the pics I took, use the link to my photos under my user name.

Welcome Aboard!!!

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

Come to Florida. It rarely rains here for more than two hours. It will even rain with the sun shining over head. That's why they call it the sunshine state.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Read some of the dive reports in the different club forums around the world. That should help cheer you up! ;)

Dive safe!

Howdy. This is your 3rd thread opened on Intros, isn't it?

We're friendly in other forums, too. I'm going to ask a Mod about maybe moving this one to Non-Diving forum.

Enjoy your rain...

Rain is nice... to a point. We now have had at least quadruple our monthly allotment to feed the local springs, and I am READY for some clear weather. Wet 'cause I gotta work, dry 'cause I can't dive, bummed 'cause of the above,,,

It's rained a lot here on the West Texas High Desert this year - the wetest summer since 1964. Lovin' it - good for farmers and cattlemen!

2 Hurricanes aimed at North Carolina this weekend. Got friends going. Hope both swerve away. But hope the wrecks are stirred up a bit before I go in Oct... :D

Lived in London for a year and around many parts of the south coast. I dont recall it being all that wet, now here it is wet, twice the rainfall per year (54 inches/year compared to London's ~30"/yr), and with a tropical storm/hurricane on the way i just cant wait!!! However as soon as it rains, the place is like a sauna as the water all evaporates again - apart from the horrendous traffic in London, i would take the UK climate any day of the week over this! ;)

Can do, luv.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of showing one of my faviorite river dives to a new friend, a diver visiting here in Oregon from Cincinnatti, Ohio. We had the spot almost to ourselves--no other divers, just a few picnikers.

This is the Illinois River in Southwestern Oregon. It runs through some rugged mountainous country, with few (and rough) access roads. In this stretch the riverbed lies between thirty and fifty feet down. The bottom is rocks--rock walls, outcrops, mini-caves; scattered rocks from cobbles to lorry-sized pieces.

And logs, lots of logs. From branches to limbs to three-foot-diameter trunks with roots attached. The river pulls them down during flood stages and lodges them under rocks or piles them up with rocks to make underwater dams and bridges and playgrounds.

Visibility isn't great, and gets worse during the day as the algae grows. The light filters down green, and all around you is shades of green and black. Steep rock walls loom dark in the near distance, and everything jumps out of the gloom into focus as you draw near.

Heaven.
