Hey look, it's a storm
Atlantic 2-Day Graphical Tropical Weather Outlook

Just asking, should I bring my dive gear next week?

It looks like rain every blinking day of my trip next week!

Third scuba dive holiday ruined by weather.

Maybe it's the universe telling me to try to quit diving.

Can't do it!

Question is - when it says rain 80% does that mean no diving?

I'm non-refundable and can just do CZM and eat / drank / shop.

Really need to dive.

Any thoughts please?

You can always go over to the mainland and dive in the cenotes.

Rain doesn't shut down diving. Bring the gear. Also, it's very common for it to show rain, and it might rain somewhere on the island for a little while, but it doesn't generally rain hard or all day. Wind from the North can shut down diving, but the rain does not.

If you want to be best prepared for rain when you're out diving, bring a wind cutting coat for the SI. I got a rain jacket at Walmart. Very light lining. Keeps you dry and cuts the wind. It was $24, 10 or 12 years ago, if you don't already have something that'll work.

Don't worry about getting wet. It happens to all of us.

Snarkiness aside, @Christi taught me not to worry about rain .Whatever the forecast ssys is probably wrong.

Absolutely bring your gear... rain means it may rain somewhere on the island, it may not, it may rain in the afternoon, or not... unless the wind gets up there, you'll still be diving.

With your dive count, if you haven't done the cenotes, consider taking a day(rain or shine) and diving them. It's not for everyone, but it is definately different. I loved it and will do it again...my wife said, "it all looks the same".

Enjoy your trip, safe travels,
Jay

What I see at wind guru it looks pretty good for next week. Looks like light winds at least through Friday but any farther than 3 or 4 days out is not always accurate. 80% chance of rain means it might rain somewhere in the area for sometime. The only time I would worry is if a front or a tropical system is expected.

From my sources, Tuesday and Wednesday look pretty wet but will make little difference at 80 ft.

Rain does not cancel diving unless it's an organized storm that brings heavy winds - like a tropical storm or hurricane. We get wet when we dive, and really the only weather conditions we monitor are winds this time of year and organized weather systems in the summer. Even winds' are not a concern this upcoming week.

And on the island, if it is raining where you are, wait 5 minutes.

I welcome a good downpour when the air temps. are high. Stay warm if not!
Happy diving!
