I'm making a quick trip to Palau on 03/21/05 for ten days got a cheap flight for 500 bucks. What are the must do dives since I only have ten days of diving?? I'm also looking for a dive buddy for the time I'm there.

Thanksl
Dale

Dale, 10 days is more then enough time to see pretty much all of Palau's dives sites especially if you are not into wrecks. I'm looking at the Palau Dive Map which I have on my wall and there are really only 20-25 dive site so you should definitely be able to do them all in 10 days. Just go with a good dive center and you should be all set.

I would go to Sam's Tours on your first day, and work out a plan with them. A few signature dives - Blue Corner (which you should do a couple of times), The wall near Blue corner (many names for different pieces of the wall), Ulong channel, German Channel (mantas), and sites at Peleliu. You should have plenty of time to get to them all. Also, be sure to take a snorkeling trip to Jellyfish Lake - very cool.

A day kayaking trip among the Rock Islands is also an easy, enjoyable break from diving - maybe on the day you fly home as you off-gas from all the diving. You can also do this with Sam's.

Cheers

Dale, you make me sick. First, you jet off to the GBR without inviting me, and now this. I don't know how I'll get even, but mark my words......

Seriously, have a blast!

Dale,

Life is good over there, eh? First you get to work at a dive shop and check out all the 20-something Bikini-Betty-tourists, and then you get a dirt cheap fare to Palau. Anyhoo, I've hit German Channel three times and got skunked by the mantas each time. But there are some cool lionfish spots where they hunt hundreds of silversides. Blue Corner is A++++. No two dives are the same. Try to hit it on an outgoing, slack, and incoming current and you'll see different stuff each time. Saies Tunnel is cool (and deep), but Saies Corner was disappointing -- looked overfished. Peleliu Island has ripping currents, thus lots of sea life, so watch yourself there. Matt's Wall and Fern's Reef have nice soft corals and are good at night, if you can find a dive shop to take you out there. Chandelier Cave is an OK dive, but I thought the mandarinfish hanging outside of it were cooler -- they're hard to find, but Sam knows where they hang out so see if he's leading a dive there sometime.

And don't miss the wrecks. The Choyu Maru is close to the harbor area, and the Helmet Wreck is small but recently discovered so it still has lots of stuff intact, including large caliber ammo and depth charges.

Dang, now I want to go back. Don't be surprised if you see me there. Where are you staying???

Hey Mike,

Yep, it's me. I just checked out my OnePass account and I may just make it over to Palau. I was looking at someplace in the Caribbean or Mexico to go to at the end of the month, but if Dale needs a dive buddy, heck, I'll just head over there.

Lets see, the Carribean or Palau...I'd be on a plane to Korror in a heartbeat. Single best dive I've ever had as at Peleliu....Leopard/Nurse sharks, multiple turtles, Marble rays, all with about 45 secs in between. My video camera was burning through tape.

Enjoy!

You guys make me, the new guy, jealous! When I get ready to go to Palau, at least I now know who to ask for advice.

Enjoy,
Dennis

Dennis,

Joe and I will probably be heading to Palau in September. Start planning. I guarantee we'll have more fun diving than Dale, but since he's sharing a cabin with two young cute canadian physical therapists, I can't vouch for more topside thrills...

That *******.
