I was thinking about buying a Sherwood Avid after hearing so many good things about it. My only problem is it is only affordable if I buy it online and I can not find a shop around me to try one on. I was hoping I could give my dimensions and get some advice from somebody who owns this BCD. I am 6ft tall and weigh between 175 and 180. My waist is 31-32 and my chest is 39. I tried on a seaquest QD and Balance and both were medium. Thanks for any input.

Atlas, I have an Avid in size Medium, I think you will take a Large. I'm 5'9'', 165#, 31" waist and 40" chest. Sherwood's website should have a size chart. I bought mine at scuba.com for $294.00

Never EEEEVVVVEEEER try on a BC in a diveshop to buy it online that is the lowest of the low. It is extremely disrespectful.

That being said you are a medium. I sell quite a few Sherwood Avid's in my store. If you went with a large it would swallow you up. I am 6' tall and thin torsoed and I wear a small in an Avid.

I have a medium Sherwood Avid. I'm 6' 2", weigh 170 and have a 40" chest and 34" waist. The BC fits me well; I believe a large would have been too big.

By the way, I really like the Avid. It is one of my favorite gear items.

Hello. I agree that the Sherwood Avid is excellent. I just bought mine about 2 months ago. I wear an XS, but I am a woman who is 5'6", and I have a 36" chest and 22" waist...based on the sizes I tried on, I would guess that you are probably a medium, but since the others figured large, it can't hurt to go try some on.

Also, just to chime in here on the dive shop issue...support your local dive shop! I bought mine locally and was very pleased with the service I got, and I would have had no idea I would wear an XS (I would have guessed S). Anyway, don't forget when you buy all your gear that you should have regular service on it. What better way to do so than to form a good relationship with your local dive shop. I was so happy with my experience that my dive shop has a loyal customer for life!

So, say you're a chick -- 5'8" w/a 36" chest and 31' waist. I wear a small in most all Oceanics and Sea Quests... would I be a small in the Avid, too?

Thanks :)

My guess would be that you are a small, but I'd go try one on just to be sure. The BC has an excellent cumber bun that adjusts quite a bit.

Unfortunately, I can't, since no local shop has one in. :/ But, knowing that it has a great cummerbund gives me an extra measure of reassurance. Thanks!

Hi Alison,

I was going to greet you and welcome you to Scubaboard after this and then I came across your post. Welcome !!!

You should be quite safe in a small size. I am 5'11", slim and I use a medium. I think even if I were to put on weight, the medium would still be okay.

Tze
