You may, for best fit purposes, buy another BP for tall people and sell the one you have now. I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a buyer.

If I'm not mistaken, and I very well may be, Dive Rite makes only one size BP . . . correct????

I'm pretty sure that's correct. i only saw options for the harness sizing, not the plate itself. i'll look into that.

I heard somewhere that Fred T makes longer BP, check with him

Just spoke to the shop that I purchased the harness from and explained my dilemna - i ordered through the mail, but i'm going to the shop this weekend. They will either get it fit properly, get a different size, or get a whole different setup altogether if necessary!
coincidentally, representatives from DR will be there all weekend as well.

can't say enough about this shop, Northeast Scuba Supply. very professional and extremely helpful, not to mention awesome prices. i wish my local shops here in MD were as good. who knows, i may even wind up with a one piece harness instead.

edit: dilemma, not dilemna ;)

I just put an extra long FredT backplate into service (I'm 6'3') and it fits great. I can't imagine using a standard length bp. The waist strap would be hella high on me if I did. This thing is rock solid and does not move on my back at all in any position.

CB..did you get the address from me?? I used those guys too....was happy.
I even said send it all set up to go and they did...no extra charge. I just made some minor adjustments and was good to go.

Rich,
I had originally seen the store mentioned in an older thread (another board member, scubadobadoo ordered the same rig and gave me the name of the shop). I checked out their website and stumbled across an awesome deal. plus, they are really, really cool guys. I'm headed up there tomorrow - think i'm going to swap this out for a one piece harness. this time i'll try to get everything fit at the store and if it doesn't work out, I may have to look into the FredT extra long plate.

I'll bet ya a pile of doubloons to a pile of pig sh!t that they put a longer BP on ya.

lol, that's quite a bet!

i'll let ya know how it goes.

Hey Chickenbone,

I have 4 dives now on the exact same gear (as you know and mentioned above) and I hope you can get it wet too very soon. I love this rig!!! I have finally found what I was looking for and I hope it works out for you too. Let me also say that North East Scuba Supply was awesome as well. Let us know how it goes...
