Just changed plans yesterday, wife and I were supposed to fly to Grand Cayman this morning, but I was able to reschedule for Turks and Caicos tomorrow morning. We paln to dive with Fifi at Scuba Adventures. A real tragedy down there in the Caymans, I hope everyone is OK.

Anyway, we're the proud new owners of the Diverite Transplates with SS backplates and Venturewings. We have not gotten them wet yet. The setups came with 2 tankstraps each. Do people use both straps when diving a single? Also, would you recommend we get crotchstraps?

Thanks,
Schwim

Use both tank straps, and, yes, get crotch straps.

I dive the same rig and love it. I think you will, too!!

Thanks Dennis. Another question, where exactly do you position your weights. I currently have the "36" pockets located as far back/against the backplate with D rings next, followed by the shoulder strap base plates. Does this sound about right?

On another note, I'm just having no luck with the weather thing. Tropical depression 11 is currently heading towards Turks and Caicos and is forecast to strengthen. Oh well :11: , stuff happens.

Ihave the same....but i use the smaller weight pockets way to the back toward the tank. I have no trim problems. I got the delux harness with quick releases and love it. Im too old and stiff to play with one piece....

i have used the crotch strap but think it is more useful with doubles than singles and yes...use both tank bands.

enjoy...

Like Rich, I use the 16 pound Dive Rite pockets and a simple web harness. The 16 pound pockets (8 pounds each) are quite sufficient for me even with my 6.5 farmer john and jacket. My weight pockets, like yours, are secured between the BP and the right and left side waist belt D-rings.

I made some special keepers that secure the placement of my pouches on my belt with a little tab that is placed on the inside of the waist belt.

question for you guys:

i was originally going to get an oxycheq setup, but instead purchased the DR transplate harness w/ the Venture and a 6lb STA. i got such a good deal i could not pass it up.

anyhow, i've assembled it and seem to be having an awkward time getting it to fit right. it wants to hang down past my lower back, so i've been adjusting the shoulder straps to counteract that. only problem then is that the waist strap then rides higher up when i snug down the adjustment straps, and the crotch strap then gets a bit, er, snug. honestly, it's been a bit awkward trying to adjust it so it fits just right, lol. i know i ordered the right size based on the measurements, but i'm a skinny dude, so maybe that has something to do with it. also, i have not actually gotten it wet yet, so perhaps a dive or two will help me figure out how to fine tune it. i put my D rings towards the back close to the plate, then the base plates and then a keeper to prevent them from moving. i have the 8lb pockets as well.

Hey, Chickenbone !!!

How tall are you?

It's hard to envision your adjustment problems without being able to see the BP on you. Your waist straps shouldn't be up so high that they impede the movement of the ribs and restrict your breathing.

Try adjusting your shoulder straps until the back plate rests just slightly above the small of your back (waist) and snug them down. Then see where your waist straps lie. The crotch strap is there just to keep the BP from shifting and to keep the bottom down when there is any significant amount of air in your bladder.

The waist strap in my rig rides higher on my waist that does the belt in my trousers, but as of yet it hasn't presented any issues.

If you forget to use the crotch strap, it may not have a big impact since you're using only a single cilynder, but if you use it, you will feel the diference, it's up to you.

I got the 32# system installed in a SS OMS BP/W setup but use only 3# soft weights at the bottom of each pocket, the rest of the space is used for storage the signaling devices (Sausage, ministrobe, PLB, Flares) which I clip to the inside D ring in the pocket, resulting in less drag due to the neat package.
In the remote case I've to ditch weight, the signaling devices won't float away, just the soft weights would fall from the pocket since it's at the bottom.

My brother have the Transpack II and works great, I opted for the SS BP to shave some weight and better stability over the soft rig.

And yes, use both tank bands

Just make sure you get time to know your new gear and get it wet as soon as you can.

Schwim,

Use both tank bands.

The crotch strap is a good Idea too. Back inflate bc's have a largely undeserved reputation for putting you on your face at the surface. Most often because without a crotch strap users will over inflate the wing causing the rig, but not the diver, to rise out of the water. Now the rig is above and behind your head.

With a crotch strap just a little gas in the upper arc of the wing is all that's required at the surface to be comfortable, it's like sitting in a swing.

Have fun,

Tobin

Hey Kracken,
thanx for the quick response. I'm actually close to 6'2. the waist strap is most likely where it is supposed to be , but it feels a bit high. also, i'm probably not used to having 12 lbs of steel on my back. when i get home, i'll tinker around with it and see what happens. i think the waist strap was up closer to my upper stomach than my waist, so it seemed a bit high, but if i loosened the tension on the strap connecting the shoulders to the waist, the plate then sort of sagged down past the lower back.

so basically the waist strap should not be up on the ribs, but also not down at the hips? (you can probably tell i'm new to the bp&w, lol)
