I have a younger sister (turns 20 tomorrow) who has a mental disability & experiences seizures occasionally; she has an equivalent mental capacity of about a 6 year old - so SCUBA is out of the question. I have never tried to take her snorkeling, or even swimming in open water for that matter......she does just fine in the swimming pool but will not (I don't think) don goggles/mask. My question to the community is this:

Has anyone on here had an aquatic-related positive experience with a friend/family member that has a similar disability? Other than just a boat ride? I would really like to introduce her to something new without overwhelming her. Unfortunately with her situation she spends lots of time sitting idly at my parents' house & I want her to share some of the joy that I experience when I submerge.....I know that going underwater is out of the question - I just don't know how to go about involving her.....if it's even possible.

Any ideas/suggestions/tips will be greatly appreciated.

C.J.

I don't have experience in this but just came to my mind that walking around tide pools could be very cool! Lots of neat creatures and can get feet a bit wet if in sandals!
