Did two today w/ the CAD big boat to Burnham Rock and the Poling. Weather topside was gorgeous and the sea wasn't bad either. Ran into Fran M. on the way out of the marina.

Burnham was 55F @ depth(93fsw) for 1/2 hour. Saw the salps in the first few feet or so, but after that they disappeared. Viz on the bottom was around 25 feet or so. Ran a line(didn't really need to) and followed the crevice.

Poling had a very noticeable surge on the surface and on the wreck w/ poor viz and lots of particulate matter on the wreck site. Was able to circumnavigate the entire wreck. The wreck was pretty clean of marine growth(as talked about before on the SB), but sea stars and anemones are returning. First time on the Poling and I was surprised by the number of large holes and hatches w/ ladders. The broken end was pretty cool, too. Did not do any penetration. 55F @ 89fsw w/ 30 minutes bottom time.

Two very nice dives and a beautiful morning to be on the water.

I just came back from the Poling stern with Gauntlet (we were supposed to be diving a deeper wreck, but the seas were snotty) and had 50 degrees on the bottom, with good visibility (20 ft+) and lots of ambient light. The deck is definitely showing rapid deterioration with holes large enough to penetrate where there were no holes before. There is also a nice pass-through in the break to the holds where none used to be, though we did not go in there. Next time! I always enjoy my dives on the Poling.

Glad you had better viz than we did. Did you have the big surge on the wreck?

No surge, just a slightly annoying cross-current on the bototm, though I have done dives with crazy surge and < 1ft of vis on her. Conditions on the Poling are incredibly variable from day to day and it is very effected by surface conditions.
