If you are interested in doing some East Coast shore diving, I would recommend a guide. I've dived several times with Bas Tol @ Basdiving.com.

I 2nd that recommendation; I dove with Bas at Cai last Sunday (a week ago today). Very nice. Cai has a variety of terrain and some big and small creatures to see, quite distinct from west coast diving. But a friend & I tried it alone in the past, and had a much more stressful, less rewarding dive. Cai is an east coast shore accessible dive, and Bas makes a huge difference.

When you think about the fins issue, be mindful you're walking geared up in heavy gear, over rough, irregular iron shore that is often abrasive and in places jagged, into water with submerged irregular iron shore that you can't see quickly because of waves & surge flowing back & forth over it continuously. My 1st trip to Bonaire I tried the 'duck walk in' with fins on; bwah-hah-hah!!! Uh, no. Walk in finless till you get the waist deep water, don fins, do the reverse at the end of your dive.

Richard.

Thank you for the advice. We are staying at Villa Lunt Bonaire located in the Sabadeco Neighborhood. Not sure how close all that is to everything

Sabadeco is a little north of town. So either the Dive Friends location at Hamlet Oasis or Buddy Dive are reasonably close. I see you get 10% off at Dive Friends. Can't go wrong with either. Actually the Buddy Dive Facility at Caribbean Club should be a short block north also. However their boats leave from the main Buddy location. Right about where it says Sunbelt Realty is "north" Kralendijk. The main Dive Friends shop is nearby.

The little red dot is very close to your villa:
