Myself and my fiancee each have a Cobra with integrated compass. They have worked flawlessly on a dozen dives and the compass is best-in-class.

I bought a computer interface and starting dumping logs into the Dive Manager software. What a joy to see your dive profile so clearly on the chart display! But, two things have me scratching my head.

Question #1: I configured the software to display the temperature during the dive. It charts a constant 32 degree F line across the length of the dive. The temperature readout on the console is correct and both computers have the same result. Funny thing is - the software displays a correct surface temperature reading on the dive summary tab. So I know the computer is sending at least a little bit of temp info to the PC. Anyone else have this problem? I updated the software to the latest (2.1.5).

Question #2: I've been keeping a manual log using the over-priced SSI fill-in sheets. The sheets are so small I have to wait till I'm on shore to write in the tiny spaces. If I start relying on an electronic log what do I show a DM when I'm traveling? I'm getting a mental image of handing my laptop to the guy right when a rogue wave smacks the boat. If I print out the logs they won't fit in the cute little wallet size SSI log. Suggestions?

Under the file tab print your dive index. Then print the charts from a few of the dives that would be similar to your planed dive. I usually fold these and put them in my bag
if I think I will need a log.

Why do you need to show the DM your logbook when travelling?
IMHO, if you're carrying your Cobra's along with you, you can always show him the log of the last 36 hours of diving (and also the history of total dives etc.). It should be as good as a logbook if you some DM asks for "proof of diving experience" or wants to know when was the last time you took a dive.

Besides, you can print the profile with additional info from SDM- in the printer page setup you can specify the size you want to print it. On the opposite side of paper you can add comments about the dive (which creatures you saw etc.)

You can also export the summary of all dives to excel and print it- should be enough for DM when you are travelling :crafty:

Suunto computers older than the D9 only record 3 temperatures: the air before the dive, the water at the deepest point in the dive, and the water at the end of the dive. That's all that it saves after the dive is over. So there is no way for the software to display more information than that.

I use a computer program as a dive log as well. I print out the pages at an appropriate size, hole punch them, trim them, and put them in my SSI dive log binder. That gives me something I can show people without a laptop along. I've never had a dive operator or DM ask to see it, though I have encountered divers or DMs who were at the same resort I was a few years previous. Having the log along allowed me to refresh my memory of that trip and figure out if I'd dived with this person before.

My boyfriend and I have the same problem with ours! The computers show the correct temperature throughout the dive, but when you upload them to the PC, it's 32 degrees across the board. Thank goodness it wasn't REALLY that cold! They show correct beginning and end temperatures, but the in-between would be great to know. I would LOVE to know how to fix this, I'm thinking of calling Suunto.

Another question on that - were you able to upload your own personal 30-char message like the manual says you can? We were thinking of putting our names in it so we can tell them apart (now we use the 24 vs. 12 hour clock), and I updated the changes, but they didn't hold. Maybe the names only appear when you load into the dive logs? I was hoping they'd show up in the display.

Other than these weird little things, we're really happy with them! Happy diving!

If you are diving with a Suunto computer other than the D9, the temp will always read 32 degrees. That's because when the computers do the sampling of the environment (i.e. depth, time, etc.) it does not save the temp. The D9 will save the temp at every sampling rate (i.e. 10, 20, 30 seconds).

I've got a Mosquito and was able to load in the message without a problem. On the dives that I downloaded after setting the message, the proper message was reflected in the dive log. I have not seen a way to view the message on the Mosquito itself though.

Haven't had a chance to see if we also have the "30-character-message" problem. Will post when we dump our latest dives to the computer this weekend.
