I saw this was asked somewhere else the other day, but using the search feature, I was unable to find it again. I apologize for asking this question again.

What is the difference between fsw (feet salt water) and a fresh water depth?

Well, the depth is the depth is the depth, that will not change.

What does change is the pressure associated at depth in Salt Water Versus Freshwater.

Salt Water weighs about 64 pounds per cubic foot where as Fresh water is about 62.4 pounds per cubic foot.

Thus...the pressure every 33 feet in SW is equivalent to 1atm...where as in freshwater, 34 feet is equivalent to 1atm. So...the pressure at 33 feet SW is 2 atm...@ 66, 3 atm...and so on.

Likewise for freshwater
@ 34', 2atm
@ 68', 3atm....and so on.

Again...it is only a minor difference, but a difference non-the-less.

that makes sense...thank you for the quick response...much appreciated.

Therefore, more weight is needed in saltwater, since you're more bouyant.

Everyone's seen pictures of people floating like mad in the Dead Sea. They were crazy floating though. Like levitating out of the water!

MADNESS!!!!!

*ohhh valium...*

MADNESS!!!!!

I have swum in the dead sea, and because it is about 60% salt, it feels like swimming in baby oil.

I thought as a professional diver, I should be able to make myself negatively bouyant right?

WRONG, WRONG. WRONG.

the first two wrongs are because it is impossible, holding a normal breath you float at nipple level, and the third WRONG is

DONT GET THAT STUFF IN YOU EYES AND DONT EVEN THINK OF SWIMMING THERE IF YOU HAVE AN ITCHY BUM. you have been warned.
