Last week I completed my OW certification in Cozumel. I was fine for all 4 shore dives. Then after certification I went out on the boat. Had a light breakfast and was fine UNTL i came out of the water onto the boat. I turned green and got sick as a dog. I elected to sit out the second dive. Still feel a little ill 1 week later, stomach is still sensitive.
I have cruised several times and always used bonnies while on the water, but didn't think of it this time:shakehead . Up until this point I have not experienced any seasickness problems.
I am concerned since I am going to Riveria Mia in less than 1 month and dont want to be sick again.
Also, I have problems equalizing and was the last one down on the dive.
We went 80'
Any suggestions, tips
Thanks in advance

doesnt sound like anything to do with a DCI. everyone has problems equalizing sometimes, so i wouldnt worry about that too much.

All i can think of is that you ate something in that breakfast that gave you a case of gastro-entiritis. I would suggest going to a doc and just getting it checked out. chances are its just a bacterial thing that will run its course and you shouldnt have any problems in Riveria Mia, but if you do, I would suggest seeing a doctor immediately when you get home. Just be careful what you eat and make sure everythings properly cooked. I always get something when i go to thailand :( my cravings for massive tiger prawns at local restaurants :D

hope this remotely helps :)

Disclaimer: im NOT a doctor or physician. I do have a current first aid qualification, but thats the limit of my medical knowledge in a certified manor. If symptoms persist, see your doctor.

There's no way to diagnose over the internet, but given that you are still feeling unwell many days after the boat ride, I suspect this was not seasickness but rather some type of gastroenteritis, viral or bacterial. If that's the case, it should pass and should not represent any increased risk of getting sick on a boat in the future.

As far as equalizing goes, try doing a search on the topic. You'll find a number of threads with great tips for a variety of strategies for clearing one's ears.

Thanks, I didn't think it was food related since my friend ate the same thing and had no problems. Really has me puzzled.

Even if you and your buddy ate the same thing, it doesnt necessarily mean you'll react the same. Your buddy may have an immunity to the organism (bacterial or viral) that made you sick.
I've had the same problem after a dive and I don't get car or sea sick, but I do suffer from altitude sickness, equalization is the key for me. Remembering to constantly work on equalizing my ears helps enormously and shy of one incident, I've not had any more bouts of nausea and vomiting.

agree with TSandM, there's no realistic and safe way to make any kind of diagnosis online like that. My advise woulfd be to go see a doctor that has experience in diving medicine, or short of that see a doctor and explan the cause and symptoms. It could well be just an ear infection.

thanks, that definately is food for thought
