Sounds good- i have yet to call Zeagle - but I know they make a back plate- that will fit the ranger. If my memory serves me corrcet the BP is not so pricey.... assuming it will balance etc... why not use the ranger W/ BP and Doubles set up?I l am looking for an argument why this will not work.
thanks

vin

If you can rig your Zeagle the way you rig a standard BP you should be fine. You would need to rig a crotch strap and make sure you have enough lift for your system. From my understanding the problem with most BC's is that the plastic back/tank plate is not strong enough to support the weight of doubles and gear. I would research this with Zeagle as well. Looking at the website it appears you can swap bladders for more lift if needed as well as a BP.

Vin,

When I dive doubles I use Pressed Steel High Pressure 120 cu. ft. tanks and have two 80 cu. ft tanks; one for a stage bottle and one for deco. I use a Dive Rite BP and 55 lb wing. With this setup I do not need any additional weight to sink and use my drysuit as a backup source of inflation.

Don't go with the big wing. When I'm diving with a single tank with a 3 mm wetsuit I use a plastic backplate and a 35 lb wing. Still plenty of lift.

As far as the Zeagle goes yes you make it work. Most regular BCD's just can't hande the stress and weight of a large set of doubles with the stage bottles and if there is a plastic buckle you can bet it will break at the worst time.

Vin:
Question is- How much lift do I need?
I owne 2 Zeagle rangers (1 is my wife's who doesn't dive much) and I can get into the MED w/ A dry suit on. I want to know if the 44lbds lifts will be sufficient for an initial double 80's set up and a 30 stage bottle or so.

My plan would be to rig the large bcd with a back plate and then buy an OMS wing set when there was more $$ to kick around. but need to know when the configuration is maxed out- I carry 36lbs in the vest w/ a heavy dry suit with extreme weighted thermals and the Zegal ranger carrying an 80....

Could I substatute the Zegal wing set up initially? So initially buy manafolds and a back plate - use that rig till I need to carry more weight etc...at that point switch out the wings and buy either OMS or DiveRight w/ more lift?

Ideas thoughts?

2 Options
1 Buy a larger Zeagle Wing for your Ranger 65lb or 85lb
2 Buy a Zeagle Backplate then all youe exsisting wings can be used with the plate as well as any new wings you buy ufrther down the track

Vin - you'll likely never need a wing with more than 50-55lbs of lift - even with doubles and stages. Bigger isn't always better.

A redundant bouyancy source - drysuit, liftbag, both preferred.

Your Zeagle will probably work for your early doubles career.....
