Hi, all. I had planned a trip through Nicarauga onto the Bay Islands at the end of <july. I booked this early in <june. Well, of course the situation in <honduras has come up (magnified) and <i am stuck here in rural Nicaragua. Even the CNN Espanol channel is showing protests in the streets of <honduras (still) and La Prensa continues to splash stuff about Zelaya on the cover of the paper.

I am debating now whether to change my departure city from SAP and skip the Bay <islands, because I can plan instead to go to Little Corn and do some diving there. The possiblity of troubles in <honduras doesn´t bother me as much as the insecurity of not knowing whether things will improve or not and will <i be stuck??? (though my teen daughter would certainly <love to not have to go back to school!). Also, a one hour flight to Big Corn from Managua at $175 rt is certainly looking far better than a 2.5 day bus ride from Managua and overnighting in 2 differnt hotels en route....

However, if the dive shops are offering really great deals it would be worthwhile for me to book a La Costena flight appx $300 into Roatan. Are there any really great price reductions now? Thanks! And please feel free to PM me so <i get the email it´s far easier for me....I have someone reading my mails and telling me this over the phone...

You have an apprehension of being stuck in Roatan, due to what CNN and LaPrensa are reporting. Got it.

At what precise "great price reduction" dollar amount would your fear of a forced extended stay be quelled?

Due to the seemingly direct feed for television from Central America to Italy and Spain, both weekly charter flights have been cancelled for the near future.

About 600 such European visitors are now not appearing on a weekly basis.

You can get some spectacular deals, notably at the AI resorts that cater to non-North American guests. Try the Henry Morgan- they lived for the Italian plane.

I don't know what your "discount trigger point" would be to overcome that thing about being stuck, but maybe that will entice you.

Allay your fears- go to Nicaragua's Corn Islands. It is equally interesting for many divers.

More than a bargain, think about how empty the dive boats would be. Just got an email today from a friend on Roatan ("All Quiet on the West End Front"), sounds pretty copacetic. Maybe not empty but certainy not very busy. He's diving w/ Native Sons and is enjoying the "more relaxed than the usual relaxed" atmosphere. Ah, viva la media hype. // ww
