Going to The Reef Club on East end of Grand Cayman on May 10 for a week. Budget allows me a three dive boat package. Thought I might do a night dive, Stingray City, and one other. Also, since I will have a small rental car, I would like to do some shore diving if I can find a buddy to dive with. Where should I ask to find if anyone else is going shore diving? Is it an awkward thing to do to tag along with someone who is a stranger? I am reluctant to ask the dive shop as this is taking business away from them with the exception of bottle rental since I have my own equipment.

I work next door at Tortuga Divers at Morritt's, and should have Tuesday and Wednesday free that week. I know all of the shore entries on East End fairly well. Drop me a PM.

There is some shore diving on Grand Cayman's East End along the north shore. You can rent tanks and equipment at some of the dive shops, but not all East End shops rent tanks or equipment for shore diving, and these policies do change from time to time. There is no decent shore diving with an onsite operator on East End.

Just ask in any of the East End shops and we'll give you some tips about entry locations and such.

You may be able to roust up a dive buddy for some shore diving. Look for opportunities to introduce yourself around to your fellow divers. Take note of people with dive gear bags when you are checking in at your resort, and look for those telling dive tshirts that get worn once a year. Finding a diver shouldn't be too difficult. Finding a good dive buddy is more of a crap shoot anywhere.
