Gilldiver--Course that air your blowing in that fresh O2 compatible clean cylinder is hyper filtered O2 compatible air and O2 compatible cleaned and maintained parts you are using in that DIY air drying rig -- right. :D

Actually, I've heard from a cylinder manufacturer (can't remember who or when) that Simple Green is not approved for internal cleaning of cylinders (NOW YOU TELL ME!) although we all use it (me included).

I also use Simple Green to clean my compressor parts and I haven't blown up yet.

The other issue is the rinsing water. If you don't have distilled water you may introduce organic particulates during the rinsing cylce.

If your potable water has enough organics to cause a concern in cleaning a tank, you have a lot of other things to worry about like what it is doing the the GI track and else where.

There are a few formulas that Simple Green comes in.
I like the "Crystal" formula, no color and no fragrance to contend with.
I use Simple Green Crystal to clean my Al cylinders.
I also use Simple Green Crystal to clean my Steel cylinders, but then I use an acid
bath on them before I dry them. ( mild acid bath to prevent flash rust)
I also use it in my ultrasonic cleaner when I am cleaning valve parts and reg parts.

You can see my tank flushing wand in my profile pictures.

... does anyone know anything about cleaning with bathroom cleaner? this seems completely unacceptable to me, or am i overreacting?

The following article discusses various cleaning agents you may find useful.
O2 Cleaning: Harsh Realities

These articles provide good information for oxygen cleaning procedures in general.
