We YAWN because of lack of oxygen.

How come when a person is DROWNING, they dont yawn ??

  :eek:ut:

That's because a drowning person is in sheer panic mode. They certainly won't be sleepy, and they will be dissipating a tremendous amount of energy. The head is usually arched back to facilitate as much air exchange as possible, and because of this, yelling for help is virtually impossible. If you ever see a diver at the surface that appears to be in this situation, be prepared to render assistance immediately.
