Got a couple questions on manual white balance with the C-5050. I copied the steps below from a previous thread, all seems pretty straight forward. First question involves the actual calibration step, where you aim the camera at the white board and press ok.

When I do this, I come to the screen that says "One touch white balance." I push "OK" and the cameras internal flash fires. I just want to clarify what might seem like a real basic question. Flash should be set to off to get the correct white balance for non-strobe shots?

Second, how far away from the camera should the white board be?

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Press OK (menu)

press down arrow to choose WB
scroll up or down to choose the button with the square with little triangles under it.

Press right arrow.

You should be in the WB screen. Aim the camera at your slate or a sunny patch of light sand. Make sure most of your monitor screen is filled.

Press OK to calibrate the WB.

Press OK twice more to get out of the menu.

Remember to calibrate often, especially when ambient light changes or you change depths by 10 ft. or more. If you decide later to use the flash or a strobe, change WB to AUTO or your photos will be too red.

Yes, if you're taking photos in ambient light only then you should turn the flash off while doing the one-touch WB.

In practice, arms length should be fine. Important thing is it should fill the frame.
