I’m looking to do more specific videos and the occasion photo with the latest GoPro. I know the older models were limited in being able to manually set the white balance and you either needed color filters or correct it in post. With the capability to now set WB in camera, wouldn’t it be easier to just create presets for depth ranges with set WB values than use flip filters?

I highly recommend looking into GoPro Labs. You can create presets that are QR codes, so all you would have to do to change your settings at depth is flash a QR code in front of your GoPro.

After I got 2 light and motion solas I tend to stay on one setting. The game changer feature of Labs is a setting WB on auto but locks it once you start recording.

I do all my color correction/editing in De Vinci (free editing software) and Adobe. Some of the people I dive with swear by filters but I find them to be more trouble than they are worth.

That’s helpful… seems like decent white balance / lighting / post processing is a better solution than filters.

There's definitely a learning curve with color correcting and fine tuning GoPro settings but also tons of guides on YouTube.

Get a cheap tray from aliexpress with ball mounts and try and find some used video lights. People are constantly upgrading so there's plenty of used ones on the market.

My 2¢, start with labs and dive as much as you can with your GoPro. The more comfortable you are with it the better you footage will be.

GoPros have always had an auto WB as well as a native WB setting that lets you play around a bit in protune format IIRC. In my experience no amount of color correction in post processing will outshine an image taken with red filters unless the camera has built-in UCC with Auto WB. Then you can skip the red filters and get fantastic colors in post in most scenarios…
