I just read the most current review of the Lions Dive Hotel, and it's got me concerned about my upcomming vacation. Apparently they are adding a new section to the resort, adding a pool and court side restaurant and have been at it for the past 14 months (stangely none of my usual travel sites mention this).

Has anyone been by there recently or stayed at the hotel within the last month or so who can fill in the blanks? I only have a few days window of opportunity to cancel my reservations (and scramble to find alternative accomdation) before I enter the penalty phase of my booking contract.

I've got the feeling that I'm going to be screwed as getting a decent room for 14 days starting on Dec 5th might not be possible at this late stage in the game.

Any information would be most appreciated.

We were in Curacao in June (not so recent) but we did visit Lions Dive twice while there and we did notice the construction (but only in the parking lot in front of the hotel entrance). It's to the right of the property when you drive in the entrance. When you walk through Lions Dive to the pool/beach and restaurants we never saw any of the construction. I don't think you'll really notice it. If you ask for a room closer to the dive shop you should be okay.

Hi Storm,
I'm dropping David's dive computer off at the Dive Bus today. I can check (down the street) at Lions Dive. There has been a lot of construction in the area that used to be a huge parking lot. I think there have been 3 or 4 sets of units built there this year. I'll check to see where there might be space on the beach for construction.
If you decide to change to Westpunt, our apartment is available from the 6th to the 21st but you'd be welcome to stay in our spare room downstairs for Friday night. In any event, I have you on our calendar as coming this way for a dive or two. Oh, you'll know the way because you'll have a great map! ;)

Hi Rick, I stopped by and asked... the front desk told me that the new rooms were done they were working on the apartments; the buildings in the parking lot side of Lions Dive. It looks like the Sea Aquarium Resort's addition is finished and most of the Lions Dive and the ones next door (forget the name) are up so it would just be interior work being done. I asked about a new restaurant on the beach and was told no. I didn't walk around because, gasp! it was raining. Usually everything stops in December so you might not hear anything at all. I would think that after a month they have repaired any damage from Omar. See you in December, Sunshine

Thanks Sunshine, I appreciate the effort.

I was a little concerned as construction is about the only thing that can really bug Judy and I while in a vacation. We can shrug off bad weather, rough dive conditions, and stuff like b igs, traffic and bad roads, but the one thing that will have an adverse effect on our holiday is loud and obnoxious noise. Stuff like contruction, lager louts, rowdy teens, can really put a damper on things, espeically if it's at the hotel we're staying at. (It's one of the reasons we went with Lions, as we were told it's the quieter of the hotels and beaches in that area.

I know that we're in a fairly busy area as it is, so I'm prepared for some noise, but the thought of jack hammers, and that BEEP BEEP BEEP of a dump truck backing up would drive me bonkers.

Anyway, thanks again for your help, and we'll see you two weeks or so.
