Hi. I just read Alcina's UW photo information for everyone. Very nice! I have a quick question about white balance. You say in your tutorial not to use the UW white balance preset but instead set it manually. Could you please explain the procedure for this and how often does it have to be reset? I am the new owner of the Canon S80 and will be using a D2000 strobe. Thanks so much.

I don't have that camera but I suspect the WB is in the function menu. Have a look in your user manual as it should tell you exactly how to set it.

You don't really need to set the WB when you use a strobe as the strobe lights the foreground/subject and will give you the "correct" colours. Some do use MWB with a strobe, but I can't say that I've ever done it and I haven't seen any good examples of why one would (but I would love to have some to add to the sticky!)

MWB is mainly for those shots when you are not using a strobe and want to tell your camera what the colours really should be, instead of what it "sees" in auto mode. These could be shots where the subject is too far away for your strobe, the scene is too wide for your strobe or when you don't have a strobe. It can also be used for those dives when the viz drops and there is heavy particulate and you turn your strobes off.

Thanks Alcina and JamDiver. I have received all the stuff from Reef Photo and have the base, handle, strobe and strobe arms finally attached. Since everything is written in Japaneese and I'm not the technical sort, it took awhile to figure just this much out. Tomorrow I'll attempt to figure out the rest. BTW, the Ike housing is quite nice. It's a bit smaller than the housing from Ike for my Sony and I like the finger grip a lot. Now to figure out the sync cord assembly and how to attach the wet lens. Wish me luck and thanks again for the explaination re WB. I'll be back.
