I have seen a few articles about the theft of a sand dune that occurred in the last week or so. It is not clear where the sand was taken from, or how extensive the damage was. Has anyone seen the area or have more info? Just curious about environmental issues. I didn't save any of the other articles but I saw this one today.

appearing Ecology director, David Viana Martínez, to explain the real reason for the meeting with a businessman accused of having received some of the stolen sand, which citizenship you think that this meeting has a hint of complicity in the theft Sand.
The council said it would seek that the current delegate for the agency in Quintana Roo "come to Cozumel because their presence is necessary to address the issue of theft of sand. Can not she be in Cancún behind the desk ignoring what's happening in the state, as its responsibility includes not only federal entity Cancun, so the invite to come to Cozumel and get involved in the issue and minimum for the know citizens. "
He added that once the Zofemat filed a complaint with the Profepa in Cancun for the theft of the dune, corresponds to the federal agency conducting investigations to determine responsibilities, mentioning that be on the lookout for the development of same may happen to like the first theft of sand that occurred in October 2014 when environmental predators a small part of that dune unpunished took the sack, and does not want the same to happen now because people could be encouraged to perform this type of environmental crimes to see justice misses those responsible.
In relation to the arising of employees of Ecology and Lemuel Mena Vega and Gerardo Uribe Ordóñez version, could have participated in one way within the large group of people who stole the dune, the governed settled that the Comptroller "has the authority and responsibility to call the officials who are involved in the issue."
And of photography in which the holder of Ecology, David Viana Martínez, appears in a meeting Barbachano Juan Herrero, owner Buccanos beach club, his faithful worker Fidel Ladron de Guevara, and Carlos Rafael Muñoz Berzunza, head of the Ministry of Environment; Councilman noted that "the director of Ecology, has to give an explanation of that meeting, what was discussed ?, What ?, What was the theme ?, what they agreed? If there were any covenant, to avoid suspicion in public opinion and that citizens make your own guesses. The official must face, answer the questions and through the media to publicize the occasion of this meeting, since it leaves much to the imagination and speculation. De 'matching' exactly how that photograph appears two to three days after it disclosed the extraction of sand, then there is little doubt that he possesses all the reporting obligations and the public to know, you need to know the reasons for this meeting has to be forceful and convincing about everything. "
Part of the sand was found in Costa del Sol villas by the ruler and mentioned that Buccanos John Herron Barbachano part of the sand spread.

This is not the only incident of sand theft, either. This has happened several times before. It's just that this is the first time I know of that they've found any of the missing sand.

Looks like some action is being taken regarding the stolen sand. The signs were put up at the site of the damage, not at the sites that received the sand. Blaming the victim. That sand dune was just asking for a bulldozing, looking all sandy and whatnot. Flaunting its glistening grains for all to see. Just asking to be scooped up and spread on a private beach.
I hope that the sand gets returned and the dune restored over time.

COZUMEL, 17 April.- Standing stamps dune Punta Morena pillaged during the early hours of 1st of April in the eastern part of the island. However, in Costa del Sol, south of the island and the Club Cozumel Caribe, north of the hotel zone, where apparently were part of 500 cubic feet looted sand found, it was found that no stamps were placed and everything Normal continues.
Although still continues unclear devastation of sand in the eastern part of the island, staff of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) performed with total secrecy verification in various parts of the island, including the area surrounding the beach of Punta Morena, 44 kilometer east of the island, where they held the mysterious disappearance of mineral material.
It will be recalled that, between the night of March 31 and the morning of April 1, strangely different units of large dimensions moved just over 500 cubic meters of sand located on the east coast, next to the bike path, which facilitated the finding by sportsmen and environmentalists, who immediately shared in social networks about the fact that qualified as ridiculous and pitiful for Cozumeleños.
Following the accusations and allegations made by the company, officials and environmentalists through various media, learned who had been a dump units which had been made such plunder of the sand, but could not determine whether they are union members to Single Union of dump truck "Vicente Guerrero" in addition to that it was known, appeared similar amounts of sand in two hotels on the island.
So the late Thursday night two Profepa inspectors who arrived in the village moved to the area of the facts, hurriedly putting two stamps with the legend of "Clausurado" under the sheet "PFPA / 29.3 / 2C.27.5 / 0098 -14/044 ". These stamps were adequate with two wooden stakes, based on a processing blocks concrete, which in early hour had been toppled by wind gusts that dominate this part of the island.
This information was confirmed officially by the biologist Reef National Park Cozumel, Rocío Bravo, who abounded in referring to the two inspectors of the Office had been performing various checks on the island, so that finally Thursday night stamps were placed on the dune where he performed so illegal extraction of sand, referring that "as we know, this would be the first action taken in the matter as well obeying the complaint filed by Conanp".
