Some of you know that I'm going to visit CCV with a group in January. The question is still if my non diving, but snorkeling, husband is going to join me.

One of his concerns after looking at CCV website and learned a bit more about the resort, is how easy it is to leave CCV and do something else, if you like? Are there any roads to/from CCV or just boat? If not, how does it work practically if you like to go somewhere else? By boat? And then taxi? Not sure what we'll going to do exactly, but maybe rent a car and take a trip and have a look around? Anyway, as he is not a diver, he's afraid that he would be totally stucked there and be bored.

I will, if he joins, only do two dives a day, which will leave lots of time for us together. As he loves to snorkel, I also have a tiny hope that he will be a bit jealous and maybe reconsider trying scuba again.

I have high expectations on the diving in Roatan. Just got back from St John, USVI, and for the first time I was disappointed when diving. Except when we dove the wreck of the Rhone in the BVI's. Maybe Cozumel spoiled me.

Any thoughts about how easy it is to move around from CCV if you would like to. Thanks for your help.

A bunch of questions there.

CCV is an ideal place for the serious snorkeler. Most such enthusiasts never bother with the boats, they just 'shore snorkel', instead.

A quick ride from CCV by motor launch to 'the landing', about a 4 minute deal, and you're on the island of Roatan proper. Cabs can be arranged to be waiting for you.

People that have real-life, long term Roatan experience recommend highly against driving your own rental vehicle. You will hear differing opinions from casual visitors, but the facts are that the roads suck and there are no medical facilities. Hired drivers work great, CCV specializes in those that speak English well and are long term contacts- they will take good care of you.

As far as having high expectations, consider the unique and very specific niche environment that you are about to see. Shallow vertical walls that are bathed all day in direct Sunlight. Follow the DM's, go very very slowly (No, slower than that!) and look for small stuff.

There is beauty in the minute.

See: ScubaBoard Gallery - South Side Roatan for South side sights.

If you are just looking to doa a day trip sometime during the week, there should be no problem with arranging a taxi and doing a tour, as Roatanman says, a taxi is probably the best option.

If you want to get out and explore the island and all it has to offer more than once, you may regret the isolation that CCV offers. West End and West Bay would probably be more suitable.

As RoatanMan says take the time to carefully examine the walls and reef and you should have great diving on Roatan. The folks at CCV will make sure the two of you have a pleasant experience and touring Roatan with a guide recommended by them is definitely the way to go.

Thank you for your replies.

OK, then I know it's possible at least. And I'm not saying that we will leave the resort all the time, just wanted to know if it was possible and how you do. We're not interested in doing stupid and dangerous things, so I guess letting the CCV resort arrage it will be fine.

Trip is booked and paid for, so changing location is out of the question. And I'm traveling with a group of at least 10-12 people.

Thanks for the link to the pictures. I hope to see something new that I haven't seen before (like a seahorse or frogfish). That would be very nice. The backyard seems like a perfect place to snorkel and dive.

Maggie - your husband is welcome to go out on the dive boat with you, and snorkel at each dive site while you dive. I think he willl really enjoy that. Then when you go back towards the resort, you can do the Drop-off dive or just take the boat back in. It really is easy. This works for the morning dives and afternoon dives. The two of you can snorkel or do whatever you want, too. The resort can arrange all the stuff you want. There is a big bulletin board with activities scheduled and a sign-up sheet for each day. If you want to to dive, and he wants to do one of the activities, he just needs to sign up and pay in office. Or if you want a taxi to take him into town, just ask in the office. :D If there is something you want to do but it is not on the sign-up sheet, just ask in the office and they will try to arrange it for you. :D

Great thanks, I tell him that:D. I so much want him to come with me and I really believe that he would like it.

Just one more question, are there any beaches nearby that you could visit? I don't get the impression that there are much beach at CCV to talk about? I hope you don't get annoyed by all my questions. Sorry about that if so.

Hi Maggy: Fantasy Island, next to CCV, has a nice little beach. You could swim across to it. Or, have someone drop you off in a boat. :dontknow: Turquoise Bay to the east and West Bay to the west have nice beaches, but you will have to take a bus, car or taxi.

OK, thanks. I looked at google earth and FI beach looked nice.

No more questions:D. Now I shall just check that there is room for hubby.

I really don't think he will miss a beach staying at CCV. There are beach chairs and hammocks right on the overwater walkways.

and since ALL rooms are oceanfront, some are over the water, you will be able to see fish and such from your room.
