Question about Canon Cameras Underwater

Why do most say IS is no use UW? It would seem to me that because you will have trouble holding perfectly still that the IS would be great UW...Or is it to much movement for the IS to be effective???

Image stabilization most asuredly works underwater. You do want to practice with it on land. Be sure to read the manual (gasp!) to learn about panning with IS. There are 3 settings of IS and each has it's purpose. I really like Shoot-Only mode. Since it is an optical system, it does not degrade your photos. By reducing movement in the lense we can achieve sharper images when we have light challenges by using slower shutter speeds. IS works!

Good going on the finding it......bet you made a ESA( with no safety stop....lol)......

I was tempted, but no, actually. My wife and I did it by the book, even with a 3 min safety stop. We were on our backs looking at the underside of the surface. Half expected to find it that way, but it was already too far away. After surfacing, the captain moved off the mooring and went downwind a bit and I spotted it about 20 yds away, looking a bit like a Portuguese man-o-war. It had moved about 75 yds in about 10-15 min. After re-mooring, we completed the dive with about 40 min in the water.
