My new reg set components will be in today and tomorrow. I have a question about hooking all the parts together. Is there anything special that I need to know about removing the port plugs and the affixing the hoses? Do I need any kind of thread sealer? Do I need to dress the o rings with any kind of lub or sealer?

I am fairly mechanical and just put a new radiator in my truck myself. and do most of my own vehicle and home repair. Not afraid of getting my hands dirty, but always like to know as much about the proper way to do a job before I begin.

I don't put any grease on 'static' o-rings (i.e. hoses on the reg), moving parts o-rings (second stage, spg etc) get a very light coat of silicone (or cristo-lube for O2 compatibility).

As for the hose into the 1st stage, tight is tight, don't over tighten them, just a little past finger tight.

Have fun!

No sealer. Just dont over tighten. Infact, Just a smidge more than hand tight so yes use a wrench but apply very little preasure.

The o-rings should be lightly greased with silicone grease. If the regs are oxygen clean, then make sure you use christolube. It's critical that you do not over-tighten the hoses when putting them on the first stage as brass is a soft metal and can strip easily.

Take an equipment specialist course , depending on the instructor you can learn alot on that course.

As mentioned do not grease anything up on the first stage..no need. Just do not OVER tighten anything. Once it seats finger tight...take your wrench/key and a 1/4 turn clockwise...just to SNUG the hoses. That is it. a very small dab of lub on moving parts/swivles. The only thing after that is adjustments...fine tuning the reg to perform perfectly.

Hook up a tank to the reg, make up a solution of soapy water and brush or squirt some on the reg hoses to see if any leaks occur. If so tighten just a bit and see if it stops. If it continues...pull it apart and check orings, replace if needed then reassemble...It is a habbit to get into to double check assembly this way.

BTW..chics and power tools...something sexy about that..;)

Have fun.

I don't know it seems to scare most men that I met in person! As far as my family is concerned, they have come to love and accept me as I am. One Christmas, my folks gave me chain saws and another Christmas an air compressor. This year I got a wet suit!!:D We never do surprises and always try to give something that will help us enjoy our interests in life.

Something to help you remember to go light on the tightening - Reg housings and hose fittings look like strong polished steel, but for the most part they are just chrome plated brass. If you haven't worked much with brass let's just say that you can whittle it with a pocketknife. It's very soft and easy to destroy if you try to torque it down like it was a steel bolt. Not to say brass is bad - it's actually perfectly suited to the job. You just have to treat it properly.

Most don’t have to be tuned for intermediate pressure, straight from the factory, as long as they don’t leak they will work fine.
