My first set of boots never smelled, my second set got so bad I threw them out, what was the difference? The first ones were dried in the sun, the second in a garage. Now that I am on my third set I consider them like gloves, they will wear out, so I just dry them in the sun, yes they fade and probably don't last as long, but they do not smell, and the after the smell that came from the second pair, i can live with a shorter boot life.
