Is the service/support acceptable from the companies with the super low priced cams listed on DPReview? This amounts to quite a bit of money. Seems like Beach Camera always has the lowest prices. Anyone have experience with them?

The game is this: They'll strip out the accessories (straps, batteries, memory card, charger, software, manuals and even lens caps!) and low ball you a price - but its not complete.

Be sure you ask if the unit is complete with all factory supplied accessories.

Be sure you ask if this is a USA unit, with an english printed manual, and not Gray or import.

Be sure to ask if the unit is "A" stock (as in brand new)

Be sure to ask if they are an authorized dealer - if they're not, you will not be covered under the factory warranty, even if the unit is complete and new.

Be sure to get an address - ask if they have a store front location. Get a phone number. Call that number before you order.

If the unit is a complete, factory sealed, "A" stock and they're an authorized dealer, be sure you pay with a credit card. DO NOT pay with western union or any other cash equivelent.

If all these questions can be answered yes, ask if they have the unit in stock right now (better: ask if they're a stocking dealer.) If it all adds up, buy it.

If not, something is fishy. Better to spend another $50 than get ripped off by buying a unit with no warranty or one that is not complete.

Excellent advice, Ken!

I don't know what business are on that list but I can vouch for Buydig.com and Newegg.com.

the prices listed on dpreview are coming from ads that are CNet based so phil askey (who owns dpreview) doesnt have much control over those.

if the price is to low, its probably a bait & Switch operation as there are a fair number in brooklyn or NYC so keep an idea out for them.

then if in doubt check out there rating on www.resellerratings.com
