Genesis, the 250HP has a plastic knob. On the end is a small plastic button. The drawings show this button is removable but I can't figure out how to get it off. It has to come off, at least I don't see any other way to remove the internals. (??)

It is a rather subtancial "decal" that covers the access to the hex fitting to remove the knob plug. It was just sticky glued in place on my G500. I used a pick to pry it loose and then just retired it. A new one (decal) comes in the G500 service kit. Serves no practical function that I can see other than adbertisement and keeping you from messing with it. I sure you could put it back with the right glue if you really wanted to.

I think it is SP policy that you have to get the service once a year in order to get the free parts. Fortunately my LDS doesn't enforce that. The owner says that if the service is over a year and the reg still looks in good shape he'll do the free parts. If the reg is looking like it's been neglected he won't.

But I've seen that there are some companies like Atomic that recommend a *two* year service interval. Saving ~$50 every other year on servicing the regs is better than the ~$25 in parts that you save each year (while still having to pay labor).

I suppose if your servicing requires more than the standard for whatever reason it would be worth it. But that would only be a special case.
