My wife and I are planning a trip in late March so my wife can do her Open Water course. I am certified so would just be doing some diving. Do you think that Puerto Morelos would be a good location to take the open water course? My wife is a bit nervous so we are looking for a location with "easy" diving, good quality dive shops and instructors. We are open to other locations as well. We were in Curacao last year so probably wouldn't go there again so soon. We're probably looking at a Caribbean destination. Thanks for any feedback!

My daughter and I did our first ocean dives with Brett at Welcome to Dive in Puerto Morelos; I did my open water dives portion of the PADI Open Water Course. They were patient and worked with me until I accomplished the skills needed. I struggled since I took my confined portion almost 5 months beforehand and I was consantly getting seasick...I am over that now :)

A year later we went back for fun dives and again had a great time. The next summer my daughter did an internship with Brett and trained to the DM level. PM is a great little town with fantastic charm. Near by Play De Carmen and Cancun are nice, but too large and too high strung for me.

Contact Brett and see what he has to say for yourself...I think you will be greatly satisfied with your trip with them.

Happy Bubbles and I hope your wife enjoys her course were ever you decide upon.

If you haven't locked down the location for your vacation, can I suggest Puerto Aventuras and diving with Dive Aventuras? We've been diving there, and with them for close to eight years, and we go there for the comfortable diving experience and the professional quality of the dive shop. We also appreciate the proximity of PA to other sites and destinations along the Yucatan coast. There are several hotels within the PA compound, however we stay each time we go in one of the condos so that we can cook some of our own meals.
