Here it is early December and I just came across this. I've been diving with LaOla Ocean Adventures the last few trips I've made to PV and have had consistently wonderful dives. I noticed one poor review on SB about them, but I've NEVER had a bad experience! Alex knows the bay like the back of his hand and is always able to find lots of sea life. PV doesn't have the clarity of 100+ vis that some other places I've dove has, but the variety of sea life more than makes up for that. I've dove PV in Aug, Sept, Nov, and Jan. In the winter there is the added plus of whales and mantas. I even got to ride a manta last year - while on a dive with Alex of LaOla Ocean Adventures. Anyway, that is my two cents -- have fun!!!!

Thank you for your reply and good information.
I have had good reviews for PVScuba and now for LaOla Scuba and in both cases, the dive guide was named Alex. I wonder if it could be the same guy? I want to book a dive with him, but now am confused if he is at PVScuba or LaOla? Could be a coincidence, but he is so highly recommended it sounds like the same guy. Any thoughts? Which dive site did you like? Thanks again -

Just to clear the confusion: We are two different Alexes. Yours truly, Alex Vega from PVScuba, and my namesake Alex (sorry, can´t recall his last name) from La Ola Adventures.

You can´t go wrong with either of us. My colleage Alex is a great guide and all the good things you hear about him are true.

cheers

Alex Vega from PVScuba

I plan to go to Puerta Viarta in late December. Anyone know how the diving is there at that time? Do you know of a reliable dive shop to find a buddy? I am new to this site.

We dove in December a few years ago there and froze our asses off, even with hoods. Plan accordingly! We dove at those islands at the north of the bay and the thermoclines were like somebody pouring ice water down your wet suit!
