Short Version:

Cold, no surge/current
Vis: 30 ft

Long Version:

Dive buddy Rob and Midwestdvr and Subzero came out withme to explore Pt Lobos. It was Subzero and Midwestdvr's first dives here so we were hoping for good vis... last week reported vis was realy bad... <10 at most places. Pt Lobos didn't disapoint this time.

We arrived a little before opening and chit chatted with the guys in line... then once in the parking lot we started sorting out the gear and dressing up.... unfortunetly for te wetsuit diviers the sun never came out and it was a bit cold for them.

After a site survey from the bluff and a thorough briefing we walked down the slippery boat ramp and giant stridded in... bubble check'ed then kick out to cannery wall. Descended to 25 ft then headed north exploreing the left hand side of the sand channel.... it was a little cloudy at first but opening up to at least 30 at 60 ft. Saw lot's of rock fish.... large ones. Vermillion, China, and a few smaller lings.... no sign of Oscar the resident sheephead....

On the way back in the sand channel was like the 101 freeway! You saw everyone.... pretty funny trying to figure out who's who (darn DIR black) I'm pretty sure they could figure out who I was ;) Then you have the 5th D X scooter team trying to lure my buddy away.... They were coming towards us passing on the right side with a pair of long body X-scooter as I was them a shaka they pass by.. my buddy who did a quick clear saw a pair of jet fins on his right... thinking it was me started folling them! Then 10 secs later when he couldn't figure out why I was going so fast without kicking :) we were reunited :D

After a 2 hour surface interval waiting for the sun to come out (never did)
and eating Chicken Pan de sals we jumped in again for a shorter shallower forray to the middle reef..... while I looked for photo worthy subjects we zigged zagged along the reef staying around 30 ish.... I nav'd us back to 15 and close enough tot he boat ramp to not embarrass my self. Overall not a bad day.... a bit cold for wetsuiters with no sun to warm up with between dives but not bad for summer considering the vis we've been having.

A great day of diving even if the sun never came out. Thanks for the experience and hope to do it again. This was my first time actually diving in a kelp forest and it was cool but eery. It was cold but not as cold as that after-dive shower I took. Brrrrr. :D

Nice report guys, the one time I did Lobos, we ha 20-30 ft vis, no surf, and sun. Got lucky. We had to get in the water a few times to cool down wet & dry.

Glad you had a good dive. The closest thing I got to scuba diving (in Vegas) was watching the safety divers in the Cirque du Soleil show, "O". I really miss diving....

Ben, you free for some flatties next week at Del Monte?

I think the pics could've been better if I used a digital strobe. Anyway, I'm going to Catalina island tomorrow for the SoCal's Wrinkles BBQ. Hopefully, its not as cold as Monterey:)

Cool... have fun thanks for coing out and diving with us... Next tiem we'll make the sun come out so it'll be a little bit warmer
