There's a saying that states: "You don't know what you don't know"

Very true.

IMHO, it is a lack of understanding of this concept that causes so many debates to become flamed on the forum.

I've stated this elsewhere.... there is a big difference between a speculative opinion and an informed opinion.

There also needs to exist a level of trust, that some people may disagree with you, because their education, training and experience has provided them with an understanding of a topic that you have yet to appreciate.

Even with these "narcosis management skills" though, you still have zero training and understanding of trimix, its to be expected that you wouldn't know what the benefits might be, even as shallow as the 40m range...

I don't have trimix training either (and I'm intending on getting some), but I've been on boats where other divers were diving mix, and I've heard them say that helium is an unforgiving gas, a fast gas, you have to get your stops right every time and so on. They also had to deal with expensive fills if a dive got blown out.

To me, albeit not trimix trained, it seems that helium is like many things in the alien underwater world, a trade-off. And once I have the training, I'll be a better judge of this trade-off. YMMV

I've been known to hang on a line for HOURS during a dive..

Admit it... You're guilty too :rofl3:

Cheers, :D

Holy crap Mike - you have no idea how true that statement is. Or maybe you've done a dive with Netmage :rofl3:

On the same depth and BT, my gear is usually broken down and I've already called in the lunch order when he finally gets out of the water. To say cats don't like water is just wrong :shakehead:

I don't see how Rjack was insulting you. There's a saying that states: "You don't know what you don't know"

I know that we are just "screen names" on the boards, but you might want to refrain from alienating people. Rjack actually knows what he's doing, and you can learn quite a bit from his experience

Maybe you should read some of his earlier posts. Pages 6 & 7 for example

I'm sure I could learn a lot from him and other people, but only if they choose to share their experiences in a constructive manner rather than simply making sarcastic derogatory comments. I'll refrain from alienating people if and when they refrain from being bombastic ********

rjack said that I have no understanding of trimix because I haven't done a trimix course. At the same time he has been pretty free with his criticism of the narcosis management course... a course that he hasn't done

'You don't know what you don't know' cuts both ways

Yeah, I get like this when I have days stuck in the office sorting out management stuff.....

Low boredom threshold, only alleviated by immersion in H2O....

Well let's face it, the actual 'discussion' phase re: the PSAI course is over. So if people want to play internet retard slap fight, have at it

You did well though mate...140+ posts on the thread. If nothing else, it is certainly a thought provoking course... and does introduce a lot of issues, even if not deliberately.

Yes, hopefully the thread made people think about a range of issues, including some that were totally unrelated to the thread topic.. Even if their reaction was "I have no interest in doing that" it's a good outcome IMO

It's just a shame that of the 140+ posts, maybe half of them were negative/unconstructive. It could have been a much more informative discussion if more people who disagreed with the philosophy or reality of the course had taken the approach of "I don't think that's a good idea because..."

Particularly since I know from reading other posts by some people in this thread that they do have a lot of knowledge & experience to share
