Hi welcome to RI the Ocean State or as some call it a state of corruption; no matter you'll decide. ;) Diving in Providence would not be a pretty proposition! Newport is the best choice with Jamestown second. Newport has Kings Beach, Green Bridge and Fort Adams. Jamestown has Fort Wetherill 2 coves, Fort Getty, and on a really good day with the right tides, and a good dive plan, timed correctly, Beavertail.

PM when you're ready to dive I'm usually always ready.

Narragansett has some ok beach diving. Unless you have bottomless pockets you probably want to stay away from the Narragansett Pier dive shop.

And if you're interested in archeological diving Google Dr. Kathy Abbas from RIMAP - the Rhode Island Marine Archeology Project. They're always looking for volunteers to dive the wrecks in Newport Harbor. Be prepared for mud and zero viz. :)

I thought Charlie sold out and moved. Is he still in business? Man can talk your ear off! :)

Narragansett pier 5 is alright for diving when the waves aren't crashing over the rocks! There's the barge in front of the beach to the left of the boat ramp, lots of fish just waiting to swim in front of a spear!

Hazard and Newton Ave. are good but, the diver has to be skilled in entering and exiting the water on slippery rocks in rough water. I'm too old for those sites.

Last year I did a solo night dive in the channel at Point Judith, great bug site but a tough dive not one I'd recommend to someone new to RI.
